Nick's Values

History, Culture, & Justice

  • Always teach (and never stop learning more about) the dance's Afro-American roots, values, and influences.

  • Dance & organize in a way that honors tradition & supports innovation

  • Be steadfast in support of local racial & social justice organizations & initiatives, Black artists, and Black-owned businesses. Lead by example; encourage students & attendees to get involved.

Equal Partnership

  • Foster a shared creative space with all partners. Listen in both directions!

  • Anyone can lead or follow. Everyone should try it all.

  • Be music-first & role-neutral. Backleading doesn't exist.

  • Equal pay (& mics) for follow & lead instructors

Community Focus

  • People over profits -- nobody gets turned away because they can't pay

  • In "social dancing" the social comes before the dancing

  • Support artists & pay them what they're worth. Plus tip.

  • Put in the work to welcome and uplift the next generation of dancers

Just Keep Laughing

  • To have fun is enough

  • No mistakes, just unexpected variations

  • "You can't win Lindy Hop" -Laura Glaess (& Lauren Levey)

  • No haters
